The News and Media Are Making COVID-19 Even Worse

2020 was a stressful year for us all. Now that it’s 2021 we’re all looking forward to something new, a “new normal”. I think subconsciously we all know that that’s not likely to happen, at least not right away. With all of this taken into consideration, I think there might be one thing that we could do to start the long process of transitioning back to the way things were.

It’s time to shut off the TV.

We all know how we’ve been fed horror stories of COVID since the very beginning. And you know what? That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Staying home when you can and practicing proper precautions needs to be a habit, and needs to stay mandatory. Sometimes a scare factor can help us remember that even if we aren’t in immediate danger, someone else is.

But when is enough enough? When do we finally turn away from the constant pressure and stress put on us by the media. I don’t think we should permanently, but instead, we should limit how much we watch altogether. I know there have been times when my TV is on a news station all morning and afterwords I’m always discouraged at the least, sometimes genuinely scared.

The easy yet effective way to combat this is by only watching/listening/reading the news every once in a while.
